Junior Zach Buffington (Ooltewah, TN) finished third in the men's 5000 meter run with a new indoor school record and provisional qualifying mark of 15:21.55. In the same race, freshmen Drew Thompson (Murfreesboro, TN) and Jake Bradley (Ringgold, GA) set new marks of 15:51.63 and 16:14.43.
Senior Josh Bradley (Ringgold, GA) hit two NAIA automatic qualifying marks on back-to-back days in the men's 600- and 800-meter runs. On Friday he ran to 1:21.47 for the 600-meter distance to break his own school record, which was set last winter. The record run saw him finish 2nd in the second section of the men's invitational race. The following day, Bradley ran to a season best mark of 1:55.24 in the men's 800-meter invitational race.
Redshirt freshman Alyssia Lindsay (Spring City, TN) set the 600-meter school record on Friday evening, running 1:47.34.
Jason McLeod (Freshman - Ocoee, FL) set career bests with his marks of 8:55.34 in the 3000-meter run on the first day of competition, finishing fourth in his race. On Saturday afternoon he led his teammates in the 800-meter run at 1:58.14. Senior Daniel Goetz (Chattanooga, TN) was just ahead of teammate and freshman Alex Stephens (Cleveland, TN), running 2:00.14 and 2:01.04 respectively.
The freshmen pair of Thompson and Stephens ran career bests on Friday when they went 4:28.91 and 4:29.65 for the mile.
"It was great to see Buffington qualify for his first Indoor Championship. It shows that if these guys continue to do the right things, they will find success. Bradley looked good in the 600 on Friday, but still has a way to go before he is in top form. Our freshmen continue to impress me as they progress each week," said Head Coach Rodney Stoker.
The Lions will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Sewanee, TN, for the Sewanee Tiger Indoor Invite. The meet is set to begin at 9:00am with the field events, while the running events will begin at noon.
