The Lady Lions scored the first 14 points of the game. They continued on the attack and went into the locker room leading 41-12 at halftime. Running clock in the second half caused the statistics to be lower than normal.
Bryan shot a blistering 64% from the field (23-36). They went 3-5 from behind the arc (including 2 from Jessica Southern). Bryan outrebounded Hiwassee 27-10. For the first time all year, the Lady Lions' opponent shot more free throws than they did. Hiwassee shot 14 (made 7) compared to Bryan's 8 (made 6).
The Lady Lions were led in scoring by Anna Thomas, who had 16 points and 6 rebounds. Cori Jones finished with 11 points. Amber Smith and Jessica Southern added 8 points apiece. Post player, Sarah Newton, had 5 assists along with Jones. Jones also had 4 steals.
Shea Thomas, Bethany McArthur and Sara Barnett were not in uniform because of injury. Hiwassee had lost their two leading scorers from the first semester.
Bryan Head Coach Jamy Bechler commented, "I thought we got some nice things accomplished tonight. Our goal was to give up no more than 1 offensive rebound per half and we accomplished that. We also wanted to apply a lot of pressure on the ball and we did that. Offensively, we were able to get the ball inside. We probably passed a little bit too much on the interior. I told them that we were getting too cute. However, it is difficult to fault them because our team is so unselfish. Cori Jones and Anna Thomas really did a good job of getting us started in the right way. Sarah Newton really played well in the second half from a scoring standpoint and had 5 assists for the game. No one got hurt, which is another plus, since we only have 2 players not on our injury report. In fact, 3 sat out this game."
The Lady Lions are now 15-8 on the season. They play again on Wednesday at Tennessee Wesleyan College. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30pm ET.
