The Lions hosted Taylor University for a 3-game series this weekend. Bryan won game 1 on Saturday. However, they dropped Friday night's game and the second game on Saturday.
In the first game on Saturday, the Lions took an extra inning to defeat Taylor in a slugfest, 17-16. The game was scheduled for 7 innings. The Lions were down 17-15 going into the bottom of the 7th, but came through in the clutch, scoring a run to send it to extra innings. Then the Lions scored again in the bottom of the 8th inning for the win. Jonathan Brown led the offense, going 6 for 6 with 3 runs batted in and scoring 5 times. Pablo Rodriguez went 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs as well. Andrew Smith also added 3 RBIs. Josh Harris pitched the final two innings for the Lions, getting the win.
The Lions lost the second game of the doubleheader 14-3 after 5 innings. They scored their first run in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Jonathan Brown singled up the middle to score Josh King, who had reached base on a single himself. The Lions then scored two more runs in the bottom of the 5th inning, but were unable to get the deficit under 10 to extend the game. The first run of the inning was scored by Steven Brown, who had reached base on a double, on a passed ball. The second run was scored by Jonathan Brown, who had singled to move Steven Brown to third, on a sacrifice fly to center by Ryan Henn. Jonathan Brown went 3 for 3 during the game. Starting pitcher Daniel Zimmerman received the loss.
On Friday night, the Lions lost 13-1 in a 9-inning game. Bryan scored their only run in the 6th inning. Jonathan Davis reached first on a wild throw. He then stole second to get into scoring position. Two batters later Josh Harris hit a double to score Davis. Harris went 2 for 4 during the game, while Jonathan Brown and Pablo Rodriguez went 3 for 5. Bryan outhit Taylor 12-10, but left 10 runners on base and had 7 errors on defense. Starting Pitcher Adam Polston went 6 innings, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits and striking out 6 batters. Polston received the loss.
The Lions are now 7-9 overall. They play again this coming weekend in a 3-game series against conference opponent UVA-Wise. Friday night's game is scheduled to start at 4:00pm ET, while Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1:00pm ET.
