Sophomore and former Sequatchie County High standout, Bryson Harper, won the men's 1500-meter run in 3:59.86. Harper took the top position on the backstretch of the final lap and ran in uncontested. Freshman Jason McLeod was 7th. "Bryson looked good today and has finally had a few weeks of uninterrupted training," stated Head Coach Rodney Stoker.
Josh Bradley (Sr - LFO) won the men's 800-meter run, crossing the line at 1:55.00. Bradley trailed in the back for most of the race before storming to the front with 120 meters left. Colby Smith (JR - Rhea County) took 2nd place in the second section of the 800 at 2:03.45.
Freshman Alyssia Lindsay (Spring City, TN) lowered her 800-meter school record for the second consecutive week, running 2:26.90 and finishing in 5th. Ericka Simpson (Grayson, GA) ran 11:09.67 for 10th en route to her school record in the women's 3k race. "Alyssia continues to improve and Ericka was impressive, as it was her first race since January," commented Stoker.
Freshman Josh Ball (Tellico Plains HS) placed 2nd en route to a new school record of 57.69 in the men's 400-meter hurdles. Ball was 7th in the 110-meter hurdles with a 16.17 clocking. "Josh knows he had the win, but looked pretty rough over the last three hurdles. He'll only improve in the coming weeks."
Senior Daniel Goetz led Freshman Alex Stephens (Cleveland High School) in the men's 2000-meter steeplechase. Goetz was 3rd (6:14.20) and Stephens right behind in 4th (6:21.29). Stephen's time qualifies him for the USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championship in late June. "I'm excited for both these guys, Alex hitting the standard and Goetz getting back to form."
Drew Thompson (Fr - Murfreesboro, TN) won the first section of the men's 3000-meter run in a personal best 9:02.45, and ended up 9th overall. Also competing for the first time this spring was junior Bryce McGuire, who was 5th in the men's triple jump.
"It was another positive weekend for our program. The next few weeks, we hope to improve in a few areas as we prepare for the conference championship," added Stoker.
