The Bryan College Women's Soccer team has released their 2010 schedule. On August 9, the team will report to pre-season training in hopes of building on the success that took them to the championship match last year. After the first week of camp, Freed-Hardeman University will travel from Henderson, TN, to play the Lady Lions. Freed-Hardeman is a member of the TranSouth Athletic Conference and will provide a quality first scrimmage to prepare them for the challenging season ahead. The Monday prior to the start of the academic school year, the team will travel to Knoxville to scrimmage Johnson Bible College.
The regular season begins on August 27 in Northeast Georgia, where the Lion's will play both Toccoa Falls College and Truett-McConnell College. Two weeks later on September 11, Bryan will play their home-opener against Asbury College, reigning champions of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. This match up has been a long-standing rivalry with highly competitive matches. The start of conference play begins at home against Montreat College on Saturday the 18th. On the 30th, Bryan will travel to Lookout Mountain, GA, to play rival Covenant College. Although Covenant has left the conference to join the NCAA Division III, the Bryan College vs. Covenant College contest continues to be a highly anticipated match. October holds three conference games for the Lady Lions, one of which will take them back to the place of the '09 conference final. They will travel to Barboursville, KY, to play the Bulldogs of Union College on October 6. The regular season finishes up at home with another conference match against Milligan College. Bryan and Milligan faced each other twice last season, tying each time. During the regular season they tied 1-1 and when they met again in the conference semi-final match, they tied 0-0. Bryan advanced to the championship match by beating Milligan 5-3 in a penalty shoot-out.
The conference tournament will begin on November 6. The number one seed will receive a first-round bye, while the other teams play at the home field of the highest seeded school. The semi-finals and final will be held at the school of the regular season champions. "I look forward to the challenges that are ahead of us. I made our non-conference schedule more demanding so that we would be better prepared to play our conference schedule. Last year I think we took some teams by surprise. This year they will be ready," says Head Coach
Mark Sauve.
