The Bryan College Basketball Program is proud to announce the hiring of Jason Smith as the new Assistant Coach. He comes to Bryan from Grossmont Community College in El Cajon, CA, where he was the Assistant Men's Basketball Coach for one year.
Coach Smith has several years of head coaching experience at the collegiate level. Prior to Grossmont, he spent two years as the head coach at San Diego Christian College, an NAIA Division I school in the nationally heralded Golden State Athletic Conference. The three years before that, he was the head coach at Calvary Bible College in Kansas City, Missouri having the fortune to coach the number one and number three all time scorers in Calvary history. In his last season at Calvary Bible, he was named the NCCAA Midwest Region Coach of the Year. Smith's coaching experiences expand many different levels of basketball including assistant stints both on the collegiate and high school level as well as serving on Coach Roy Williams managerial staff at the University of Kansas.
"I'm humbled and honored to join Coach Rekoske's staff and to be a part of a winning program. Not only do I look forward in helping to take this team to the next level into the national tournament but I'm excited about the opportunity to learn from a great coach, disciple young men, and serve in the community, " stated Smith.
Bryan College Head Coach Don Rekoske commented, "We are really excited about Jason being part of our staff. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table. He will be actively involved in the daily operations of the program as well as recruiting."
Coach Smith and his wife, Tina, now reside with their two children in Dayton.
