Coach Shumaker begins his first season at the helm of Bryan College Volleyball, taking over the program on June 1. Shumaker comes to Bryan from Baptist Bible College where he was the women's volleyball head coach for the past 10 years. In his time there, he led his team to an impressive record of 209-139 (.600) becoming the most successful volleyball coach in school history. Coach Shumaker will strive to continue the excellence achieved by the Bryan volleyball team in recent years, but will look to push them to new heights in the coming years.

While at Baptist Bible College, he led the Lady Defenders to 4 straight NCCAA East Region Championships, including a 2nd-place finish in the National Tournament, and a 29-11 record in 2005. He garnered numerous honors in the NCCAA, receiving 3 Regional Coach of the Year awards, while being named National Coach of the Year in 2003. Coach Shumaker served as the Regional Volleyball Chair for 2 years and National Volleyball Vice-Chair for one.

After transitioning the team to the NCAA III, Coach Shumaker led his team to 2 straight NCAA conference championships in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. (NEAC) He took the first ever Baptist Bible College team to the NCAA III National Tournament in 2006. After his team moved to the Colonial States Athletic Conference, they ranked in the top three every year finishing the 2010 season as conference runner-up. Coach Shumakers received the NEAC Volleyball Coach of the Year award in 2005 and 2006, and was named the CSAC Coach of the Year in 2010.

In his ten years at BBC he has coached 12 NCCAA All-Region players, 6 NCCAA All-Americans, 2 NEAC Most Valuable players, 9 NEAC 1st Team All-Conference athletes, and 4 CSAC All-Conference players.

Coach Shumaker earned his Bachelor of Science in Bible with a Pre-Seminary major from Baptist Bible College in 1990. He went on to earn his Master in Divinity from BBC in 1996. He also did some graduate work at Michigan State University and is currently working on his PhD in New Testament. Coach Shumaker along with his wife, Joanna, and his two children, Drew and Danielle, live in Chattanooga where they are actively involved in their local church and volleyball.
