Taylor Hasty is heading into his fourth season as the head coach of the Bryan College baseball program. He took over the helm in May of 2008, making him the third person to hold the position since the program was reinstated in the fall of 2002.
In his first 3 seasons, Hasty has seen the program grow from a 6-win season in 2009 to the first winning season in program history in 2011 at 31-25; including 6 wins over top 25 programs and a 5th-place finish in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. The Lions fought to a semi-final berth in the AAC Tournament, before losing to the eventual champion.
"The 2011 season was an exciting season to be a part of," Hasty said, "I am proud of the great strides our players made as we all work together to make our program one of the elite baseball programs in the country."
Bryan has reached new heights under Hasty, setting 13 different season records as a team over the past three seasons. The Lions have produced an NCAA All-American, 4 first team All-AAC team members, 2 AAC Gold Gloves, and placed 10 players on the AAC All-Academic team. Six of the ten AAC All-Academic members were also recognized as Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
Under Hasty, Bryan has had one player sign a professional contract with the Toronto Blue Jays while 2 others played professionally.
A 2006 graduate from Bryan College, Hasty helped restart the baseball program at Bryan as a freshman in 2002 after a 16-year hiatus. Despite playing third base and left field for the Lions, Hasty was primarily a pitcher, setting the career record for innings pitched (332). He served as a team captain for 3 years and in his senior season earned the Bryan College Athletic Departments highest honor, the Lion of Valor award, given annually to the outstanding Christian athlete who excelled both on and off the field.
A native of Charlotte, N.C., Hasty graduated from Charlotte Latin School, where he helped win the 2000 state title in baseball. Graduating with his bachelor's degree in history in 2006, Hasty went on to receive his master's degree from the United Sports Academy in 2010.
Hasty is married to the former Julie Thompson of Chattanooga, Tenn. The couple and their two-year-old son, Maddux, reside in Dayton, Tenn.
