[Women's Basketball] Lady Lions Now 3-0

The Lady Lions hosted the Lady Tigers of Hiwassee College last night. Bryan improves to 3-0 after defeating Hiwassee 91-46. All 10 Lady Lions scored, with three of them reaching double figures.

DAYTON-- Jenna Ray, a 6'0" senior forward from Roane County High School in Kingston, TN, has signed a Letter of Intent to continue her education and basketball career at Bryan College. This past May, she was named as one of the Top 50 players in the state of Tennessee by the nationally renowned Rick Bolus' High Potential Basketball Recruiting Service.

[Lions] NAIA Announces 2008-09 Champions of Character Institutions

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) named Bryan College to the list of Champions of Character institutions for the 2008-09 school year. The mission of Champions of Character is to restore character values and raise a generation of students who understand and demonstrate in everyday decisions integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership. The NAIA and member institutions use the Champions of Character program to instill an understanding of character values in sport, and provide student-athletes, coaches and parents the training to help them know and do the right things, inside and outside the sports setting. The program is dedicated to the principle that character is a choice and that being a champion is not just about winning, but making good decisions consistently in daily life.

The Lions traveled to Bristol, TN, last night to take on former AAC opponent King College. It took a second overtime to decide the exciting and close game. Unfortunately, the Lions lost 2-3.

On the back of senior right hander Ben Young, the Red Team shut down the offense of the White Team in World Series Game 2. Young went 8 innings allowing 2 unearned runs, striking out 7 in earning the victory. Freshman Josh Harris started the game on the mound for the White team, battling over the course of his 4 innings, allowing 4 runs, 2 of which were unearned, taking the loss.

The Lady Lions' volleyball team spoiled Bluefield College's senior night by sweeping the host team 25-16, 25-20, 25-18 in an AAC match on Friday. The Lions improved their record to 12-1 in the conference, and achieved their fourth consecutive 20-win season as they improved overall to 20-12.

On a brisk Friday evening, the Red/White World Series got underway. Zach Breault took the ball for the White Team and was dominant over the course of his 6 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits, receiving the win for his efforts. The bats for the White Team gave Breault the lead in the second inning after a big hit by Freshman Josh Harris, and followed that run with a 2-run home run by Senior Joseph Delrosario in the bottom of the third. That was all the run support Breault needed; Harris, combined with Junior left hander Tyson Latham, finished the final 3 innings for the White Team.
