Wesley Sanders will be entering his 3rd year as the Sports Information Director for the Bryan College Lions Athletic Department as the 2017-18 season gets underway.
Sanders graduated from Bryan in the spring of 2015 with a degree in Exercise Health Science while minoring in Business and Biblical Studies. His interest working in collegiate athletics grew during his time at Bryan, and in his senior year he had the opportunity for an internship with Bryan's Athletic Director and Head Coach of Baseball, Taylor Hasty.
During his internship, Sanders showed a desire to learn and work hard as he balanced his classes and helped the athletic department manage the Bryan Lions website (bryanlions.com), write releases for both the local newspapers and online, and promote the Lions through their social media outlets. On July 1, 2015, it was made official as the Lions hired Sanders on as the SID.
“It was a natural transition for us,” remarked Coach Hasty, “Wes is a wonderful young man who is full of ideas and passion. He will do a great job for us because he cares deeply about Bryan College, Lion Athletics and the local community. I am thankful to have him on staff as our ambassador for all we do here.”
During his time as a student at Bryan, Sanders was influential as a student leader as he helped develop the relationship that continues to grow to this day between Bryan and the Hands and Feet organization in Haiti. Sanders helped lead the first two trips, and he hasn't stopped there as he helped bring to fruition a Break For Change trip to the Bahamas. With a heart for the pro-life ministry, students have the chance to serve with the first and only crisis pregnancy and resource center in the Bahamas. Bryan's first-ever BFC team to the Bahamas went in May 2017. Sanders has been extremely connected to the Women's Care Center of Rhea County where he has volunteered, fundraised, and helped with promoting events.
As the SID, Sanders oversees the website as well as the content that gets added. He, along with the help of Will Tholken, Coordinator of Athletic Operations, have accomplished a lot in just their short time working in the athletic department. Both have started a live stream that is featured for all home games, so fans and family have the option to watch the Lions live if they can't make it to the campus. Also, both have contributed to the revamp of bryanlions.com, which was launched June 2017. The online facelift includes new features such as Lion Spotlight, Online Gear Store, Hall of Fame, and new app.
Other responsibilities of Sanders' include creating news releases and articles for the website of all 13 varsity sports and two club sports, overseeing stats and live stream video at all home events, responding to statistical and other report requirements to the NAIA and AAC, nominating for all awards, preparing and designing media guides and splash pages, assisting in publicizing of athletic events, overseeing social media pages, and acting as photographer and digital media artist for the Lions.
In 2016, Sanders became part of the faculty at Bryan be instructing Exercise Health Science activity classes.
Originally from Dayton, TN, Sanders graduated from Rhea County High School in 2011 where he participated in basketball, tennis, and cross country. He also competed in the United States Tennis Association at different tournaments around the Southeast.
“I am so excited to be serving at my alma-mater,” said Sanders, “I am thankful to work alongside our incredible athletics staff and support them in any way that I can.”
Sanders and his wife, Tabitha (also a Bryan graduate), currently reside in Dayton, Tenn.
